Description The President's Environmental Stewardship Advisory Council formed a sub-committee to conduct the initial GHG inventory. This sub-committee consists of the Directors of Physical Plant, Facilities Planning, and Environmental Health and Safety, the administrative staff areas the most responsible for these programs and a faculty member from Environmental Engineering. The sub-committee will add members from other stakeholder groups after the initial inventory is completed and we begin to examine ways to reduce GHG emissions.

1. Establish a policy that all new campus construction will be built to at least the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver standard or equivalent.

Yes: Starting with Academic Building VII, the next planned building, FGCU will build to the USGBC Silver Standard and/or the Florida Green Building Coalition's Green Commercial Building Standard. The Florida Green Building Coalition standards provide independent third party certification of accomplishment, and are designed specifically to be used in our hurricane forming hot and humid environment in Florida.

2. Adopt an energy-efficient appliance purchasing policy requiring purchase of ENERGY STAR certified products in all areas for which such ratings exist.

Yes: The University currently buys Energy Star appliances when they are available as stated in the University's Procurement Services Recommended Purchasing Practices (4.3.5). In addition, the University exceeds this action requirement on computers by recommending for purchase computers which meet the Gold Standard of the US EPA's Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool in addition to their Energy Star rating.

3. Establish a policy of offsetting all greenhouse gas emissions generated by air travel paid for by our institution.
